Glenn Pelletier signing off after 40 years in broadcasting

His voice is one of the first you will hear when tuning into 570 NEWS in the early morning hours.

And Glenn Pelletier will get to anchor newscasts on the station one last time before he retires on Friday, August 13. It will actually mark 40 years to the day he delivered his first newscast on what was 570 CHYM back in 1981.

His first stint with 570 CHYM was brief, he then went down the street to CKCO-TV for a few years, returned to be part of the CHYM switch from AM to FM in 1992.

In 1999, Pelletier also spent time as part of CHUM-AM's Toronto Blue Jays' radio crew with the legendary Tom Cheek and Jerry Howarth.

He has been part of the morning news crew at 570 NEWS since 2005. In fact, he helped launch the station's news wheel format alongside Lisa Drew, who have been day one teammates ever since. In all, Pelletier spent 35 of his 40 year career with Rogers Kitchener Radio.

Former 570 NEWS program director Don Kollins said Pelletier was a “shoe-in” for the news wheel format.

” … with Glenn you've got a consummate professional on the mic and in the office and then you had a great friend and passionate sports guide and a outside a guy you could go have a couple beers with. It's a guy that can deliver the hard stories, yet could also be taken out to see a client and shows … so when building 570 NEWS an essential piece, It was Glenn.” shared Kollins.

“Very capable of writing and delivering the hard stories and then as you know you'll be able to adjust to the entertainment and light stories and that's a playful and easy transition that it's not in every talent and Glenn has this and it's a talent that you know after today it's going to be missed on 570 NEWS … congratulations to Glenn on retirement, what a great career.” Kollins added.

In a way Pelletier was also like the pre-Google. Glenn was the go-to in the newsroom for historical dates, and would have an answer for you instantaneously.

“I've never met anyone that can remember those dates and times like Glenn can … Yeah he's a freak.” Kollins joked.

Pelletier is also well known for his Mick Jagger performances, and has appeared with various Rolling Stones cover bands over the years.
