Suspect flees from police in downtown Galt

By Tim Herd

On March 10 at 10:53 p.m. Regional police officers were patrolling the downtown Galt core when they tried to stop a vehicle for a traffic offence, which resulted in the lone male drive attempting to evade police.

Officials say the suspect made several turns before colliding into a curb forcing the vehicle to a stop.

The male driver immediately exited the vehicle and fled on foot, and later allegedly tried to steal a marked police cruiser.

Officers pursued the suspect on foot as well and made the arrest.

A search of the vehicle found suspected fentanyl and break-and-enter tools.

The driver is facing several criminal and provincial offences including impaired operation of a conveyance and was held for a bail hearing.
