Charges laid in boating accident which took the life of a Kitchener teen

A resident of Brampton has now been charged in connection with a boating accident in which a 13-year-old Kitchener girl was killed.
It happened the afternoon of July 26, 2020 at Conestogo Lake.
The teen suffered life-threatening injuries after being hit by a boat.
Tania Yonan was pulled from the water by rescuers, and pronounced dead at the scene.
As a result of a five-month investigation, Ontario Provincial Police announced on Wednesday afternoon that three charges have been laid.
Ayad Warda is charged with the following:
- Operating a vessel in a careless manner contrary to the Canada Shipping Act-Small Vessel Regulations
- Failing to take reasonable steps to ensure safety of craft and persons on board contrary to the Canada Shipping Act-Small Vessel Regulations
- Operating a vessel in an unsafe manner contrary to the Canada Shipping Act-Small Vessel Regulations
The accused is scheduled to appear in a Guelph court on February 12.
