WCI hosting ‘Walk for Hope’ for Syrian refugee family
The distance between Syria and Waterloo is 9,731 kilometres, and that's how far students and staff at Waterloo Collegiate Institute will walk for a good cause.
The high school is walking to raise funds to reunite a refugee family from Syria.
In 2014, the family was granted refugee status and came to Canada – unfortunately, some siblings had to stay behind.

WCI, with help from the Mennonite Central Committee, have applied to bring the rest of the family members to Canada.
$35,000 is needed to sponsor the family for one year.
To raise the money, the student leadership class at the school created a walk-a-thon called “Walk for Hope”, using an app to track their steps and collect donations.
The Walk for Hope is ongoing, continuing until they reach their goal of 9,731 kilometres.
