Over $1M available for charities responding to COVID-19

The Kitchener Waterloo Community Foundation (KWCF) and the Cambridge & North Dumfries Community Foundation (CNDCF) announced they will be providing up to $1.07 million to support local charities responding to COVID-19.

The partnership also includes Community Foundations of Canada, United Way Centraide Canada and the Canadian Red Cross, and is funded through the federal government's $350 million Emergency Community Support Fund (ECSF).

The aim is to support vulnerable populations disproportionately affected by the pandemic.

“This is a vital step in the fight against the effects of COVID-19,” Elizabeth Heald, President & CEO, Kitchener Waterloo Community Foundation said in a release.

“Marginalized groups, youth, children and the elderly, essential workers, and newcomers are just some of the communities that are facing increased challenges right now. We are pleased to be able to assist organizations across Waterloo Region that are addressing the needs of our vulnerable populations by distributing the funds made available through the Government of Canada.” she added.

“Local charities and non-profit organizations have been working tirelessly to support those who need it most right now,” said Anne Lavender, Executive Director, Cambridge & North Dumfries Community Foundation. “This additional funding is a much-needed boost to their efforts. We’re looking forward to flowing funds quickly to ensure no one in our community is left behind.”
