Community events cancelled, postponed due to COVID-19

Updated: Wednesday, April1 – 10 a.m.

As of Tuesday, March 17 at 9 a.m., all bars and restaurants in Ontario have been ordered to close, other than businesses offering delivery and take-out options.

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact Waterloo Region.

You can see a list of cancellations due to the coronavirus below:

– Closure of municipal, regional facilities in Waterloo Region to continue until at least May 4.

– Schools will now be closed until at least May 4. 

– Idea Exchange will be cancelling all Spring scheduled events and programs. Included in the cancellation are the events and programs of the Cambridge Art Galleries.

– As a result of the ongoing COVID-19 issue and the Government of Ontario declaring a state of emergency, WWFC has ceased all operations until April 3. There are minimal staff available at this time. We hope to make an announcement about resumption of full or partial operations on April 2.

– Extend-A-Family Waterloo Region. Here are some changes our organization has made during the COVID-19 pandemic:  Our office is closed to all visitors until April 5. The Kitchener-Waterloo Library of Things and WALES are also closed until April 5. The following programs have also been cancelled until April 5: Open Space (held at Blackwing Coffee Bar, Queen Street Commons Cafe and Seven Shores Cafe). All workshops and trainings In addition, our 2020 DSP Conference (previously scheduled for April 17 and 18) has been postponed. 

– All CHL playoffs are cancelled for the first time in 102 years, including OHL playoffs.

– As of March 20, the City of Kitchener is closing all outdoor playgrounds and skate parks until further notice.

– The Ontario government to close provincial parks to the public from March 19, 2020 until April 30, 2020.

– The County of Wellington has closed its waste facilities to the public. Curbside collection will continue as usual.

– The Child Witness Centre has closed its offices. 

– The Coalition of Muslim Women Kitchener-Waterloo 10th Anniversary Gala has been postponed to Saturday, June 13.

– Kitchener-Wilmot Hydro will be temporarily closing its front doors to customers effective March 19 at 4:30 p.m. until April 6, 2020.

– Tommy Gun's Original Barbershop has announced the voluntary and temporary closure of all corporate-owned and franchise-owned Barbershops across Canada and the United States.

– The Beer Store is reducing store hours and pausing recycling until March 31. You can find those hours here.

– Guelph Arts Council has closed its office and postponed March and April public programs until further notice.

– The Kiwanis Club of Guelph says its Sports Celebrity Dinner scheduled for May 20 is postponed.

– Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery will remain closed until April 6.

– The Region of Waterloo and area municipalities will be closing all remaining municipal facilities to the public up to and including April 5. See more details here.

– Wilmot Township has postponed its International Women's Day in Wilmot event set for March 28 in New Hamburg.

– As of March 18, all Grand River Conservation Authority offices and facilities within Grand River Parks have been closed to the public until Monday, April 6.

– The Habitat Waterloo Region ReStores will be closed effective March 18 to March 30. ⁣

– Registration for The City of Cambridge's 2020 Spring/Summer programs has been postponed.

– Beginning Thursday, there will be reduced hours at all LCBO stores. They will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

– The Greater KW Chamber will be rescheduling all events that were set to occur March 17 until the end of May.

– The City of Kitchener council meeting planned for Monday, March 23 has been cancelled. 

– Public access to all Waterloo Regional Police Service facilities will be closed, effective immediately. 

– Energy+ Inc. has closed its office to the public.

– Waterloo Fire Rescue will not be providing station tours, or participating in community fire and life safety educational presentations for the time being. 

– The Cambridge Fire Department is asking the public to please not visit any Fire Station. It is also refraining from station tours and public education events/presentations.

– The Kitchener Market is now closed to the public.

– The St. Jacobs Farmers' Market is temporarily closed until March 31. However, the Market Road Antiques location across the street from the Market will remain open at this time, along with the St. Jacobs Outlet mall. Hours may be reduced though.

– Suzy Shier has closed all of its retail locations in Canada beginning March 17. 

– The Bay is temporarily closing all stores for two weeks. 

– Voila has closed all of its salon locations until April 7.

– Chicopee is now closed for the season. 

– The Humane Society of Kitchener Waterloo & Stratford Perth has restricted public access to its animal centres. 

– The Guelph Humane Society is closing its doors to the public until April 5. 

– Partytown Guelph cancels St. Patrick's Day parties. The company owns several downtown Guelph bars and restaurants, including The Palace, Bobby O'Brien's, McCabe's Irish Pub and Trapper's Alley.

– The Keg Steakhouse and Bar is closed effective March 17.

LA Fitness is closing its gyms until at least April 1. All memberships extended to cover the time that the gyms are closed.

– All GoodLife Fitness and Fit4Less Clubs across Canada are closed.

– Cineplex is closing all of its theatres and gaming centres until April 2. 

– Landmark Cinemas has closed all of its theatres, including those in Waterloo Region. 

– Solé Restaurant and Wine Bar, Blackshop Restaurant, and the Melville Café are closed effective Monday, March 16.

– Fionn MacCool's in Kitchener is closed effective Monday, March 16.

– All Movati Athletic Clubs are closed until further notice.

– Rhapsody Barrel Bar in downtown Kitchener is closed effective immediately. 

– The Scran and Dram Scottish Public House in New Hamburg is temporarily closed beginning March 16.

– Jack's Family Restaurant in Waterloo will also be closed.

– Sephora is closing all of its retail stores in Canada and the U.S. beginning at 5 p.m. on March 17, until April 3.

– The Imperial Market and Eatery in New Hamburg is temporarily closed. 

– Vicanies, The Bra Fitting Specialists, will close all three locations until further notice.

– The Body Shop is closing retail stores across North America, including locally, until at least Friday, March 27.

– Lush is temporarily closing all of its retail stores in Canada and the U.S. from March 16-29. This includes the locations at Fairview Park and Conestoga malls.

– Hot Topic is temporarily closing all of its stores, including at local malls, until March 30.

– The Waterloo Central Railway is cancelling all operations until at least the end of April. 

– All Ignite establishments, including Red Circle Coffee, The Rich Uncle Tavern, Graffiti Market, and Red Circle Brewing, are closed until further notice. 

– Ethel's Lounge in Waterloo will be closed until further notice beginning Tuesday, March 17.

– The Duke of Wellington will be closing its dining room to the public, but will continue food delivery.

– The University of Waterloo is asking students to vacate residences (not mandatory). The school says it will offer reimbursement.

– Lutherwood says all of its Employment and Housing Resource Centres are closed and individual appointments with staff will continue via phone or email. 

– Morty's Pub will be temporarily closed until further notice.

– Lone Star Texas Grill has temporarily suspended dine-in service. Delivery and take-out are still available.

– Community Support Connections is suspending all programs and services for a two-week period beginning March 16.

– Students at Wilfrid Laurier University are now required to move out of their Laurier-operated residences by Wednesday, March 18 at 11:59 p.m.

– Neruda Arts says its Arpillera project, Satellite event, and concert series will be postponed until further notice. 

– CMHA Waterloo Wellington has moved all appointments, groups and children's walk-in services to online or phone. All CMHA is also closing all of its offices, effective March 18. 

– Charcoal Group restaurants will be closed beginning at 4 p.m. March 16 due to the continued spread of the COVID-19 virus.

– Orangetheory Fitness will close its studios across the country, effective by the end of the day on March 16.

– The Waterloo Region Small Business Centres' located in Kitchener, Cambridge, and Waterloo are cancelling all workshops, events and in-person consultations at this time. 

– Apollo Cinema is temporarily closing its doors beginning March 16. All events and screenings will be rescheuled. 

– Kitchener's state of the city address is postponed until later this year.

– Waterloo's state of the city event is postponed indefinitely, it was originally scheduled for Tuesday, April 21.

– The Canadian Clay & Glass Gallery is closed until further notice.

– The YW/YMCA of Guelph, YMCAs of Cambridge, Kitchener-Waterloo and YMCA of Stratford-Perth have cancelled all programs and services, and are closed.

– Effective March 16, Community Living Cambridge has temporarily suspended all Community Participation Support Programs (all Day Programs) until further notice. 

– Kitchener Rangers' office is closed due to the season's postponement.

– All in person programming provided within the community and at HopeSpring Cancer Support Centre’s location within the Inn of Waterloo has been placed on pause indefinitely. 

– All programs and services have been suspended at KidsAbility until April 6.

– All KW Habilitation day programs are closed for participants effective March 16 to March 27.

– The Region of Waterloo’s five directly operated child care centres will be closed until April 5, 2020.

– The Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum, Joseph Schneider Haus and McDougall Cottage with be closed to the public effective Monday, March 16. This includes all March break camps.

– All Region of Waterloo Library branches will be closed to the public beginning Monday, March 16, 2020.

– The Region of Waterloo says all municipally-run cultural and recreational facilities will be closed from March 16 to April 5. This includes all arenas, pools, community centres, public libraries, and day camps.

– Church of St. John the Evangelist will not be holding in-person services. They will be providing a webstream option.

– Trinity Lutheran Church, New Hamburg, is suspending worship and church activities through March 29.

– All activities at the Ayr Curling Club are being postponed till April 3, 2020.

– All church services, mid-week meetings and facility rentals from March 15 to March 29 at First Baptist Church in Waterloo are cancelled.

– Worship services and Faith formation classes from March 15 to March 29 at First Mennonite Church are cancelled.

– All scheduled library programs and events from March 14 to April 5 at the Kitchener Public Library are cancelled.

– Lutherwood says its school is closed through to April 5, and other services are affected. See more here

– All programs and events at Idea Exchange are cancelled, effective immediately, through Sunday, April 5.

– House of Friendship is suspending in-person donations for its programs. Financial donations will still be accepted online. 

– Shantz Mennonite Church in Baden will be closed on Sunday, March 15.

– Stirling Avenue Mennonite Church has cancelled Sunday morning worship for March 15.

– The City of Kitchener’s Athletic Awards Banquet that was scheduled for Tuesday, March 24 has been postponed.

– The Centre in the Square will be cancelling all shows until Sunday, April 5. Kitchener officials are working on the potential of rescheduling cancelled shows.

– All minor sport groups in Waterloo have cancelled their programs, except for any groups that use the pool. Community Adult Recreation Leagues (CARL) and senior programs have all been cancelled.

– The Bling Out Your Bras fashion show, put on by the Wilmot Terry Fox Run, has been put on hold.

– The Grand River Conservation Authority says effective Monday, all of its nature centres will be closed until April 5. Its March Break Camps, as well as any previously scheduled events like birthday parties, are also cancelled.

– The Canadian Clay & Glass Gallery is postponing this year's fundraising Gala, scheduled for March 28, until June 13. That is a provisional date though. 

– All programs and events at the Waterloo Public Library are cancelled, effective immediately, through Monday, April 6th.

– Dan Mangan's performance at Centre in the Square has been postponed until June 27, 2020 at 8 p.m.

– Planet in the Square, scheduled to take place April 22 at Centre in the Square, has been cancelled.

– The New Dundee Pancake Breakfast to take place on March 15 has been cancelled.

– The KW Symphony is cancelling performances until April 5. If you already have tickets, click here for more details. 

– The St. Mary's General Hospital Foundation is cancelling this year's She Shares event, scheduled for March 26, 2020.

– The Sexual Assault Support Centre is suspending groups, workshops, and drop-in programs until March 30. Individual counselling will take place online or over the phone. Its office will also close, but phones and emails will be monitored during regular office hours.

– Cambridge Mayor Kathryn McGarry has postponed her State of the City address. It was set to happen April 20, and will now take place September 14.

– Waterloo Church of Christ has cancelled all public gatherings effective Sunday, March 15. 

– The Waterloo Warriors have cancelled their March Break Camp slated for next week. Current dates for the Big Man and Skills Camp are postponed. 

– KW Habilitation's SOUPFEST, presented by Kitchener Waterloo Kinsmen, scheduled to take place at Maxwell's on March 18 has been cancelled. 

– ActOUT! The Kitchener-Waterloo Children's Drama Workshop is temporarily cancelling programs, performances, rehearsals, and workshops until April 5. 

– The Stratford Festival has decided to cancel performances from April 11 to May 2, as well as all public events in its facilities during March and April.

– The Ringette Ontario Team says all ringette acitivities have been cancelled until further notice, including the AA provincial tournament. 

– Wilfrid Laurier University says all alumni events from March 13 to April 30 are cancelled.

– Friday's Mayors for Meals event has been postponed. Information regarding an updated event will be released in the next few weeks.

– Home Hardware Stores Limited announced the cancellation of its 2020 Spring Market which was set to be held in Waterloo Region from April 5 to 7.

– The Confederation Club Luncheon set for March 19 at the Crowne Plaza in Kitchener has been cancelled.

– The North Dumfries Sports Camp will not run its March Break Camp is Ayr next week. 

– The Preston Figure Skating Club is postponing their 60th Anniversary Skating Show and Reunion Activities on March 28 until March 2021. All practices have been cancelled.

– The Waterloo Regional Down Syndrome Society has cancelled this Saturday's World Down Syndrome Day celebration at Maxwell's in Waterloo.

– The Wilmot Optimist Club has cancelled the craft sale scheduled to take place tomorrow at the WRC.

– The Woodstock Nostalgia Show on Sunday, March 15 has been cancelled.

– Musician Matthew Good has postponed the rest of his tour, including a stop at Elements in Kitchener on Saturday.

– All in-person events, workshops, and peer group meet-ups scheduled to take place at Communitech hubs have been suspended.

– Drayton Entertainment is cancelling all remaining performances until May 3.

– The Elmira Maple Syrup Festival has been cancelled. 

– The Laurier Loop has been cancelled. It was set to take place Saturday, March 14.

The Ontario government has announced all publicly funded schools will be closed until May 4. This will affect the Waterloo Region District School Board, and the Waterloo Catholic District School Board.
