Wellington County to develop a demand based ride-sharing transit system

By Christine Clark

Wellington County is one step closer to helping residents and visitors access essential services in the community.

In April of next year, the County hopes to have an app developed and a call centre in use that would allow residents to book, pay for, and track trips through a demand based ride-sharing transit system.

This thanks to a $499,550 cheque from the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario Community Transportation Programme. That cash will be paid over the next five years.

The new system looks to help seniors, youth, visitors and persons with disabilities easily move across Wellington County.

Just under 900 responses to a week long community survey in the county showed better community support was a need in the area.

More details on the program can be found here.
