Local volunteer hockey coach, supply teacher charged in sexual assault investigation
A former volunteer coach with the Kitchener Minor Hockey Association, and supply teacher with two local school boards, has been charged with sexual offences involving one victim.
Regional police say 33-year-old Tyler Curtis from Kitchener has been charged with one count of sexual assault and one count of sexual interference, as part of an ongoing investigation into the allegations, which span between 2004 and 2006.
Curtis is currently a substitute teacher with the Wellington Catholic District School Board and the Bruce Grey Catholic District School Board. Police say they have not received any information relating to similar allegations against Curtis in his position as a school board employee.

He’s set to appear in court in October.

Director of Education with the Wellington Catholic District School Board Tamara Nugent has released this statement to 570NEWS.
Mr. Curtis was hired as an occasional teacher in 2015, however, he has not worked in any Wellington Catholic school since January, 2017 and remains inactive pending the disposition of this matter.
The Wellington Catholic District School Board has been advised by the Waterloo Regional Police Service that the charges against Mr. Curtis are not related to any Wellington Catholic students or his employment with the Board.

The Board has fulfilled its obligation to report this matter to the Ontario College of Teachers.
Meantime, Jamie Mckinnon, Director of Education with the Bruce Grey Catholic District School Board, confirms to 570NEWS they have been advised by Regional Police of the charges against Curtis, saying in a statement:
We have also been advised that the charges against Mr. Curtis are not related to any Bruce Grey Catholic students or his employment with the Board.
Mr. Curtis was hired as an occasional teacher in 2014, however, he has not worked in any Bruce Grey Catholic school since January 2017 and remains inactive pending the disposition of this matter.
The Board will fulfill its obligation to report these charges to the Ontario College of Teachers.
