Off-duty officer dies in single-vehicle collision, Peel police says

Peel regional police says one of its officers has died after a car crash just west of Toronto.

They say the collision took place early Saturday morning in Mississauga, Ont., and involved only one vehicle.

The off-duty officer, who was driving the vehicle, and a passenger were pronounced dead at the scene.

A second passenger was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Peel police did not release the name of the officer and say they’re asking Toronto police to take over the investigation into the crash.

It says flags will fly at half-mast in tribute to the deceased officer.
