City of Waterloo unveils Westmount Sports Park

The City of Waterloo is hoping for sunshine Saturday afternoon.

Officials will celebrate the grand opening of the Westmount Sports park, an 11-acre site opposite Laurelwood Dr. on Westmount Rd. boasting three sports fields, a playground for kids, and a gathering space.

“We have lots of hands-on environmental activities for families, students, and individuals to come out and learn about our environment,” says Peggy Stevens, an environmental stewardship coordinator with the City of Waterloo.

“We’re going to have lots of planting trees — 500 trees and shrubs to plant — as well.”

Stevens adds the grand opening — from 1-4pm — will run in conjunction with Waterloo Earth Day.

“The goal is to provide environmental education and stewardship opportunities for the community, so this is one way to celebrate our Earth and get the community involved,” Stevens says.
