A new survey by Workopolis found that 93 per cent of employers will search for your social media profiles during the interview process.
So what exactly are they looking for?
More than half of hiring managers say they’re looking to see if the candidate will be a good fit with the corporate culture of the company, 45 per cent say they are on social media to find out more about the candidates qualifications, and 44 per cent say they want to see if a candidate is creative.
But Peter Harris, the Chief Editor at Workopolis, tells 570’s Gary Doyle Show hiding to much information on social media can raise red flags.
“There is a price you can pay if they don’t find you at all. If an employer is interviewing you and considering you for a job, and look you up and can’t find anything record of you online at all, that an also be a red flag. It might appear that the candidate might have something to hide, or more likely, isn’t very socially savvy or technically adept and isn’t using the latest communication tools.”
The survey found the top three things employers didn’t want to see on your social media profiles are; the use of illegal drugs, posts of a sexual nature, and the use of profanity.
