Police investigating reports of shots fired in Kitchener (update)

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

Waterloo Regional Police have released more details on an investigation at McLennan Park in Kitchener on Tuesday.

Police initially reported over the noon hour that officers were on scene at the park in the Ottawa Street and Strasburg Road area for an unspecified investigation, and there were no safety concerns.

In an update on social media shortly after 2 p.m., police said part of their investigation also centred on the Windflower Crescent and Windflower Drive area, near Ottawa Street and Fischer-Hallman Road.

In an e-mail statement to CityNews 570, police said they received reports of gunshots in the Windflower neighbourhood Monday night that resulted in property damage to a home, although there were no reported injuries.

Police also reportedly located evidence at McLennan Park that a firearm had been discharged there.

Members of the service's Forensic Identification Unit processed both locations for evidence, and police believe it was a targeted incident.

Anyone with information, including witnesses or those with relevant video footage, is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers.
